Joy Bernal

Founder, BAWDY

Joy is a fashion, beauty, event, and lifestyle photographer based in NYC. Born and raised in South Jersey, she pursued her passion for art through a variety of crafts including modeling, styling, graphic design, photography, videography, and creative direction. Her love for production has driven her to launch BAWDY as a space and resource for artists, entrepreneurs, and businesses to enhance their brands through visual storytelling, compelling images, and impactful experiences. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she has extensive experience in project management specializing in creative advertising which has allowed her to provide a wider, well-rounded service to her clientele.

As a WOC and first generation Filipino-American, Joy has overcome a number of challenges in both her artistic and professional career. Her work is a visual representation of her story, experiences, emotions, and values. She continues to utilize her knowledge to coach individuals ready to invest in their craft and pursue their passion. Joy’s mission is to help artists and entrepreneurs build their own “world of creative freedom” by advocating and guiding them in their pursuit to reach their full potential.

THE SERIES

The BAWDY Series captures and illustrates unarticulated and, at times, compromising subject matter in an unorthodox fashion. It is a visual representation of emotions, situations, and experiences that are difficult or feel impossible to verbally express. Each season focuses on a number of “Chapters” that concentrate on a specific theme.

The Series is profoundly expressive and is meant to challenge comfort, promote perspective and understanding, and encourage self-awareness. It is a form of communication and realization through imagery.
